Time: 1 – 2 hours
The Children’s Discovery Garden at Wegerzyn Gardens is the most adorable place! We make a point of visiting at least a couple times during the summer. My 7 year-old boys have grown out of it a little bit, but they had a lot of fun playing with their little brother. The gardens is perfect for children ages 5 or 6 and under. Kids can splash around in the man-made cave waterfall and creek, make up a melody in the music maze, water a garden or build a sand sculpture in the sand play area. Outside of the children’s garden is Wegerzyn Gardens which is a gorgeously landscaped park (and a really popular place for photographers). We love to bring a picnic and enjoy nature there.
2nd St Market
*Open Thursday-Sunday only
If you don’t bring a picnic lunch with you to Wegerzyn Gardens, then consider stopping by 2nd St Market (just down the road in downtown Dayton) for a bite of local fare. We spent a few years in Seattle in the beginning of our marriage, and 2nd St Market reminds me of a miniature Pike’s Place Market. 🙂 You’ll find a variety of ethnic foods from French to Hungarian to Thai. I don’t remember which booth it is, but one of them sells the best key lime pie I have ever had! The market is also a great place to support local artisans.
